Glaciers are perhaps the most spectacular features of the natural environment and produce some of the most distinctive landscapes. Despite their origins as mere snowflakes, they are capable of carving huge valleys through mountain ranges and scouring areas of thousands of square kilometres.

Glacier processes are among the key mechanisms which have shaped the surface of the earth over millions of years, and they continue to do so today.
