Introduction
Perhaps the most well-known form of ‘green’ tourism is its ‘ecotourism’ flavour. Ecotourism is a recent term, gaining popularity over the last few decades (since the late 1980s in particular) that is, like all new terms, searching for a meaningful and all- encompassing definition. Many regions and travel-related companies all over the world are proclaiming that they support and practice ecotourism (Hall and Page 2010). Yet paradoxically, if not taken forward effectively, perhaps by exceeding carrying capacities, it can destroy the very ecosystems it relies on and hopes to protect (Wood 2002).
