Thinking about green tourism

In spite of the host of benefits surrounding this growing tourism segment, there are still a number of issues involving both providers and tourists. For example do tourists know how to behave at eco-destinations and who is responsible for informing them? There are books on the subject but when you are going on vacation do you study before hand?

As a commercial commodity it is in the interests of the tour providers to monitor the commodity being offered and respond to problems identified. For example, in the Annapurna trekking region of central Nepal , the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) estimates a mere 20 cents out of the $3 spent by an average trekker per day ends in the pockets of local economy (Gurung 1994).
