Weft and warp knitting

There are two major groups of knitting: weft and warp knitting.

In weft knitting, the wales are perpendicular to the course of the yarn and the connected loops are in a weftwise or horizontal direction. Weft knitted fabric is commonly highly elastic and drapeable.
